How to add attachments in Confluence

The Quick Pot Noodles method

  1. Click the Files and images icon on the options menu, top of page

  2. Find and select the file from your local computer

  3. It will kerplunk a preview image into your page, like so:

…which might be okay if you’re attaching a PDF (left) or powerpoint file (right) and the first slide fully displays the title (which it doesn’t, in this case), but doesn’t look like much for a word file (middle). So, like pot noodles, this is just a quick and unfulfilling solution.

The Veggie & Brown Rice Stir Fry method

  1. Type /atta and you’ll see the insert attachment macro option appear. Click it, confidently.

  2. In the macro editor that appears, select it and click the pencil to edit

  3. In the new window’s Preview pane on the right, you’ll see a list of everything we’ve attached above, in the Pot Noodles. If you don’t want to use the Pot Noodles files, select them above and delete them. In the Preview pane you can also select a file and click Delete below it, but that doesn’t seem to affect what you’ve added in the Pot Noodle. A bit confusing.

  4. In the lefthand pane, I recommend leaving only the Show previews box ticked.

  5. Click Save

Once you publish the page, you’ll have a display that looks like this:
